Co-owners and transferring primary ownership

Your account always has exactly one Primary Owner — the billing contact and identity-provider owner — and can have any number of co-owners with the same day-to-day powers. This page covers granting and removing co-owners and moving the Primary Owner designation to someone else. All of these actions are owner-only (Administrators cannot perform them).

Grant a co-owner

  1. Go to Team and find the person in Active Members (they must be an active member).
  2. Select Make Co-owner.
  3. Read the confirmation dialog carefully — it spells out that the person gains full account control, including billing, team, connectors, and the ability to manage other owners — then confirm.

Effects:

  • Their role badge becomes Owner and any tool restriction is cleared (owners always have all tools; this also flows through to all their AI-assistant credentials).
  • They are also granted owner rights in your identity organization so they can manage sign-in settings. (This grant is applied on a best-effort basis — if they can't open the identity console later, contact support.)

Remove a co-owner

  1. On the co-owner's row, select Remove Co-owner and confirm.

Effects and guardrails:

  • They are demoted to Member with an empty tool list — deliberately locked down rather than silently keeping all-tools access. Assign tools right afterward via Edit Tools if they should keep working (Managing members).
  • You cannot remove the Primary Owner this way, and you cannot remove the last remaining owner.

Transfer primary ownership

Use this when the person who anchors the account — billing contact and identity owner — is changing (departure, role change, acquisition).

  1. Go to Team and find the new owner-to-be in Active Members. They must already be an active member (any role).
  2. Select Make Primary Owner.
  3. The transfer dialog explains the consequences; confirm to complete the transfer.

What changes:

  • The chosen person becomes the Primary Owner: billing contact, identity-provider owner, role Owner, all tools.
  • You remain on the team as an active co-owner — you are not locked out, and you keep your identity-organization owner rights.

What does not change:

  • Billing continues uninterrupted. Existing subscriptions, payment records, and any bring-your-own-API-key configuration stay attached to the account exactly as they were. If you need to change the payment method or billing email, do that separately through the billing portal on the Billing page.

Transfer limitations

  • One person can be the Primary Owner of only one StackJack account. If the target is already the primary owner of another account, the transfer fails with a descriptive error — contact support@stackjack.io to untangle multi-account situations.
  • If the intended new owner isn't a member yet, invite them first (Inviting teammates) and transfer after their first sign-in.
  • If the current Primary Owner has left and can no longer sign in, StackJack support can perform an operator-side ownership reassignment — email support@stackjack.io from a verifiable company address.
