How Billing Works
StackJack bills per connector, not per seat and not per account. A connector is an integration with one of your MSP tools (HaloPSA, ConnectWise, NinjaRMM, and so on). Each connector you activate gets its own subscription, with its own plan, its own monthly call allowance, and its own billing cycle. This page explains the model; the pages that follow walk through the specific screens and flows.
One subscription per connector
Every connector your organization uses has exactly one subscription. Your account can mix tiers freely — for example, HaloPSA on Business, NinjaRMM on Pro, and Hudu on Free, all at the same time.
There is no account-wide plan. When your AI assistant calls a tool, StackJack checks the plan of that tool's connector — nothing else.
How a subscription comes to exist
You rarely create a subscription explicitly:
- Free tier, automatically. The first time you save credentials for a connector (or complete its sign-in flow), StackJack creates a Free subscription for it automatically. There is nothing to buy and no card required.
- Paid, through checkout. Upgrading a connector from the portal opens a checkout; once payment completes, the subscription updates automatically. See Upgrading a connector plan.
- Purchased on the StackJack website. Buying a plan or bundle on the website provisions the matching connector subscriptions into your account — even creating the account itself if you are a new customer.
- Arranged with StackJack. For custom setups (including Enterprise and custom call limits), StackJack support can configure subscriptions directly. Contact support.
Signing up for a free account in the portal creates no connector subscriptions by itself — those appear when you connect your first tool. (Historically, free signups could also come through the website's checkout, which created their connector subscriptions directly — accounts from that era are covered in Legacy WooCommerce billing.)
The four plan tiers
Each connector subscription is on one of four tiers: Free, Pro, Business, or Enterprise.
| What changes | Free | Pro | Business | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tool availability | Core read tools | + write, action, and advanced tools | Pro tool set (one connector — CIPP — adds Business-only tools) | Everything |
| Tool calls per billing cycle | 100 | 5,000 | 50,000 | Unlimited |
| Bring-your-own Anthropic key (BYOK) | — | — | — | Yes |
Notes on the table:
- Tool availability is the biggest practical difference between Free and Pro. Which specific tools sit in which tier varies by connector — see Plan tiers and tool gating for the full explanation and the per-connector catalogs.
- The call allowance is per connector, per billing cycle — it resets when that subscription's cycle renews, not on the calendar month. Only successful calls count against it.
- Custom limits are possible: if you have arranged a custom monthly allowance with StackJack, the number shown on your Billing page is the one that is enforced.
- Current pricing for each tier is shown in the portal and at checkout.
There is no per-minute rate limit
StackJack does not impose a per-minute or "burst" rate limit on your traffic. The monthly plan allowance is the enforcement point. (StackJack does self-throttle its outbound calls to each vendor's API so your API keys are never rate-banned — those calls are briefly delayed, never rejected.)
Per-user connector access and plans
Some connectors let individual team members authorize with their own identity (for example, per-user OAuth for HaloPSA and NinjaRMM, or a per-user API token for N-able N-central). Per-user access requires an active subscription for that connector — any tier, including Free. It is not a paid-tier feature.
If you see in-app text suggesting a paid subscription is required for a per-user credential, that copy is outdated — an active subscription of any tier is sufficient.
Who can manage billing
Billing actions are split across two permission levels:
| Action | Primary owner / co-owner | Administrator | Member |
|---|---|---|---|
| View the Billing page (invoices, payment methods, prices) | Yes | No | No |
| Upgrade or cancel a connector plan (Connectors page) | Yes | Yes | No |
| Buy credits, manage the BYOK key | Yes | No | No |
Administrators can change connector plans day-to-day, but the account's payment relationship — payment methods, invoices, credit purchases — belongs to the owners.
What billing never touches
Changing or canceling a plan never removes your data or your people. Team members, connected AI clients, and per-user credentials all stay in place through downgrades — only tool availability and call allowances change. See Canceling, downgrades, and payment issues.
